Jia Jiang’s “Entresting” Journey: 100 Days of Getting Rejected

I came across Jia Jiang’s third video on Twitter. First, I was impressed with the worker at Krispy Kreme, Jackie, and second, I thought his journey was an awesome idea.

Jia Jiang wants to get over his fear of rejection. So, what better way to get over a fear than to confront it head on. And from what I can tell, he already has. Anyway, he is going out and trying to get rejected with outlandish requests for 100 days, and he invites us to share in his journey by putting his videos up on YouTube, and on his blog, entresting.com.

I respect what he is doing and I give him props for leaving his comfort zone. Some requests are pretty easy, like requesting a “burger refill”, (I love Five Guys by the way)  and others are more challenging and awkward, like knocking on a stranger’s door and asking to play soccer in his back yard. In this day and age, when was the last time you knocked on a stranger’s door?

I like that Jia puts himself out there, and I also like how he adds the human element to his videos. If I were trying to get rejected, and someone was acting like a douche to me, I might be a little annoyed because I really value humanity and I think everyone should be respected. Jia doesn’t get annoyed at all.  But then again, he wants to get rejected, so maybe he expects some people to act like douches. And in fact, he sometimes compliments the people in his videos.

I’ll post one of his videos from one of his challenges–and one of my favorites so far–Give $5 to $5 random people:

Questions

Why do you think the people didn’t take the money? Because of the reciprocity principle? Because he didn’t give them a reason? Because they didn’t trust a stranger? Leave your comments below. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Jia’s journey and also this video.

There is a famous saying, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” So, what are you going to do today to leave your comfort zone?

Good luck the rest of the way, Jia, and thanks for sharing your journey with us and incorporating the human element throughout.

If your curious follow his journey at entresting.com.

What does Jiu Jitsu Have to do with Escaping the Real World?

I slapped hands with my opponent. I felt eerily calm and not that nervous. It was on, and I just had to follow my training. I didn’t know any take downs, so my strategy was to stand up for as long as I could, and possibly pull guard. Suddenly, I made my move and ended…

Ignore These 5 Blogging Tips at your Own Peril

As I mentioned in a previous post, my strategy going forward is not to worry too much about search engine optimization, but rather to focus on getting your great content in front of influencers in your niche to naturally attract visitors who will link to you and share your content on Twitter or Facebook. Of course, this isn’t easy, and…

Blog Commenting: Do it Right or Don’t Do it at all

Most blog comments suck. If it’s not spam, it’s just “Good post!” To me, writing a good blog comment is common sense, but since there is so much garbage in virtually every comment box on every blog out there, I decided I’d post on my thoughts on the subject. Common Sense, or The Best (and Only) Blog…

I’m Fine,Thanks: An Inspirational Movie Directed by Grant Peele

Above is the Trailer for the movie, I’m Fine, Thanks   I’m Fine, Thanks. When I first heard there was a movie coming out with this title, I kind of ignored it because it reminded me so much of Korea. (For those of you that don’t know, if you ask any Korean “How…

2 Productivity Tips that the Gurus Don’t Talk About

A problem many people have (myself included sometimes) is how to stay productive. We live in a world where we expect everything instantly, but also there is so much information out there and we suffer from information overload which can hinder our productivity. In fact, you could spend so much time reading about how to increase…

Focus More on Skills, Not Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is complicated and confusing. For starters, Google always seems to be changing their algorithm. Look at the recent chatter on Disavow, for instance. People spend so much time trying to game the system. People continue to say the best way to get noticed is to “write valuable content“. That advice is OK, but…

If You Want to Escape the Rat Race, Read These 2 Books

When I was in high school, I wanted to be rich. So, I decided to talk to rich people and read books that rich people wrote. I read (and still do!) books on the stock market, books on marketing, leadership, personal development, and other aspects of business. Then I stumbled upon Rich Dad Poor Dad….

My Ongoing Plan to Escape the Rat Race

So yes, I know I have been talking about ways to escape the rat race on this blog, but I don’t think I’ve been too specific. I recently posted how The Real World Myth was going in a new direction, a more personal direction, and here is what I mean. What I am doing right now to…

4 Ways NOT to Be Homesick When Living Abroad

I have been living in Seoul for over 2 years now. I often get asked if I miss home in the USA. And the answer is of course I do. I think everyone gets a little homesick once in a while. So I decided to dedicate this post to expats who are living abroad and…
